Morgan Inglis

I have lived and worked on the family farm just outside of Walkerton, all of my life.

I have farmed just north of Walkerton with my brothers David and John.

My father bought 50acres of land in 1942, when I was one year old. He bought breeding stock from purebred holstein herds, and over the years, grew the farm to 450 acres. We milked 60 cows at the time.

Dad won the Master Breeder’s Award, the highest award Holstein Canada gives out. He won it in the late 1960’s. No one else in Bruce County had won that award when Dad did, and it was a long time after that anyone else did.

The three of us took over the farm and won the award again in the late 1980’s. Our family became known for being Master Breeders. We sold cattle all over the world. One of the biggest export markets was the United States and Cuba.

In 1972, there were 30 Holstein breeders invited to Cuba by Fidel Castro. We sold them a bull and a cow. Fidel crossbred the Canadian and Cuban cattle. Cuba took agriculture very serious.

We sold cattle until 2004, and now I am retired.
