“Bob Kerry recalled that when he was a boy one of the features at the town fairs and celebrations was someone going up in a balloon. He said that he would to Walkerton to see the people go up in the balloons. This recalled to his memory that about 45 years ago, a balloon landed on the back of Lot 1, Con. IX, Brant Twp. It was carrying two men from Chicago. These two men were uninjured and they walked into Eden Grove and spent the night at Connor's hotel and the following day they took the train back to Chicago, leaving their balloon behind as it was badly torn. The people in the district went back where the balloon had fallen and helped themselves to the champagne which the men had carried with them on the balloon.” Interview with Bob Kerry, July 23, 1956 by Bruce Krug, part of the Krug family fonds at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre.
